Some military phrases can mean almost anything. "Gen Dit." usually means... a rumour that's probably true.
Whether it was news from Brigade, a last-minute change to the programme, or someone claiming they'd heard it "from the bloke in HQ", Gen Dit was the closest thing the military had to an official unofficial announcement.
Recognised across all three services, it's one of those phrases every veteran understands. Sometimes the information was spot on. Sometimes it was complete nonsense. Either way, everyone had an opinion on whether it was actually "Gen."
